Sometimes, When A Child’s Behaviour Has Been Ongoing For Quite Some Time, Behaviour Analysts Highlight That, The Child Can Then Fall Into The Habit/Cycle Of Behaving This Way. It Becomes A Habit To React/Behave In A Negative Manner, & When It Becomes A Habit, The Child Does This Behaviour, For The Most Part, Without Giving It Too Much Thought.
Examples Of Habits/Cycles Of Negative Behaviour That A Child May Fall Into:
– The Child Exploding Into A Tantrum Automatically, Each Time Things Don’t Go Their Way, Rather Than Making An Attempt At Managing Anger Before Having An Outburst.
– The Child Automatically Displaying Sibling Rivalry, Anytime Their Brother/Sister Is Getting Attention From Someone Else.
– When Visitors Come Around, The Child Straight Away Displaying Attention Seeking Behaviours By, “Knocking Their Behaviour Up A Notch” In Order To Be The Centre Of Attention.
– Etc.
Likewise, When A Child Has Been Presenting With Behaviour Challenges For A Long Period Of Time, Behaviour Therapists Point Out That, The Parents Also Tend To Fall Into The Same Habits Of How They Respond Or React To The Negative Behaviour, While Parenting.
In Relation To This, Studies In The Field Of Behaviour Analysis Show, That Children Don’t Have The Awareness Or Ability To Break The Cycle Themselves, & So That Is Why They Need Their Parents To Change How They Are Responding To The Behaviour In Order To Break The Cycle For Them.
Child Therapists Underline That Only When Parents Change How They Are Responding, Are They Going To See The Changes They Want To See.
