Studies in the field of Behaviour Analysis show that back in the day with regards parenting, parents didn’t have the same valuable knowledge, time, or resources for addressing behaviour challenges, such as sibling rivalry or attention – seeking behaviour, that is available to parents nowadays.
As a result, Behaviour Analysts highlight, parents didn’t always know the “correct” way to address situations & different behaviours, such as helping their child in terms of managing anger or preventing tantrums, etc. Due to the lack of knowledge & information available on managing child behaviour, parents had to do the best they could at the time with what they knew, as this was all they could do.
Behaviour Therapists underline how the same knowledge & awareness wasn’t there of how important it is to nurture, praise, & build up a child, or of how addressing things certain ways could impact on a child & how it could also possibly affect them later on in life too.
As a result of this, Child Therapists point out that there are a lot of “broken adults” out there who are now trying to heal or “fix themselves” as a result.
This is why it is so important now, that parents do avail of the valuable supports & knowledge that are out there, that weren’t once available to parents – so that parents can be conscious of how they are responding to, & nurturing their child, so as to not repeat the cycles of the past, but instead to be able to give their child the best possible start & a solid foundation to grow & thrive from.
