Addressing Behaviour Problems

Behaviour Therapists point out that the importance of parents having one to one time with their child can often get overlooked. The benefits of consistent, quality, daily one-to-one time with your child is immeasurable in terms of their development & on child behaviour.

Behaviour Analysts highlight this is when strong connections & memories are made, a time when your child is more likely to open up to you, & it is also a time when your child gets your full focus & attention which children thrive on especially in this day & age where life is so busy & there are so many distractions, high expectations & pressures on people.

Studies in the field of Behaviour Analysis have found that quite a lot of the time, when children present with negative behaviour, when analysed as to what the reason for it is, a lot of the time one of the contributing factors to the behaviour is the child is attention-seeking/connection seeking, i.e. the child is acting in a certain way in order to receive attention & interaction (even though it may be negative attention & interaction that they get).

Child Therapists recommend that allocating time on a consistent basis each day to give your child your full focus & attention, getting involved in what they are doing or playing, while giving them lots of praise & positive interaction reduces the likelihood & need for your child to look for attention & interaction through negative means.

It also develops a better bond & relationship between you both which increases the likelihood of your child working on things like managing anger better when they are getting on well with you & have a good relationship with you. In turn, there is likely to be a reduction in behaviour challenges such as tantrums, sibling rivalry, & attention-seeking/connection-seeking behaviours, etc.

It may seem like a lot of effort to do this on a consistent basis when parenting your child, but the benefits of doing so Are Well Worth It & Can Last A Lifetime.
